e-Curriculum

What is e-Curriculum?

This module manages the data related to the school curriculum such as subjects, year groups, classes, timetable and the academic calendar, along with the pastoral structure such as houses and forms/tutor groups. It provides a large number of functions to manage these data and the primary functions are described below.

  • Management of the academic calendar including the period structure of each day. It can be varied on days of the week or even change over time (e.g. Change the day structure in the summer term).
  • Management of the curriculum organisation units: Faculties, departments, subjects, year groups and bands.
  • Class management: Powerful control over the definition and membership of classes. The Class management facility brings many class related data together in one place for ease of management. Pupil and staff memberships, which is tracked over time and provide exceptional control using inclusion and exclusion lists. Timetable adjustment (when, room, who, support staff etc), also has exception control should it be required, via inclusion and exclusion lists, and the ability to alter (or add/remove) individual entries in the timetable. The power of the Bromcom MIS solution is its ability to approach certain objectives differently and end with the same result. For example, if a timetabled class is suspended for a week, then the timetable can be directly adjusted in terms of removing those events, or the week can be added to the timetable exception list.
  • Group management: The management of groups is very similar to that provided for classes. Form/Tutor group management automatically deals with membership transfer (a pupil can be a member of one form/tutor group at any one time) and includes the setting for statutory attendance, which can, under the control of the school, be created or updated from class registers. All other groups including reporting groups and special interest groups are all conveniently managed in one place. Special interest/tracking groups such as “known truants”, “choir”, “school orchestra”, “football team” etc can be maintained along with the system automatically maintained groups such as ‘All Year 7 Boys’, ‘All Year 7 Girls’, ‘All Year 7’, ‘SEN” and “Gifted and Talented’.
  • Pupil memberships: Instead of maintaining memberships by class/group etc., the pupil membership view enables control from the pupil viewpoint. All memberships can be viewed over time, across years if wanted, and changes made on mass.
  • Staff memberships: As with pupils, instead of maintaining memberships by class/group etc., the staff membership view enables control from the staff viewpoint.
  • e-Curriculum Class Search

  • Bulk assignment: A speed edit for memberships that enables the user to select the pupils along one axis and classes/groups along the other to form a grid, which is then used to manage memberships. Pupils out of class/group are highlighted and according to rules applied by the user, they can for example ensure that a pupil is in only one of the selected classes/groups.
  • Management of staff non-contact time and duties. The coding and use of the non-contact time and duties is under the control of the school.
  • Reporting: Various reports and lists are provided with prescriptive reports such as free rooms, class assignment, and timetables, which in turn has list and table formats by pupil, staff, room, subject, band, department or year group. Further ad-hoc reports can be built up with the e-Reporting designer.
  • Timetable management: The timetable model designed within the e-Timetable application is applied as required to periods on academic calendar and then further micro adjustments are made within e-Curriculum. It is possible to enter the complete timetable using e-Curriculum but e-Timetable is the point for curriculum planning and timetable designer.
